4-4-07 Activity on setting up the association is progressing slowly but a revised draft constitution has been prepared and will be sent to all those expressing an interest shortly. Work on the patterns for the standard chimney is progressing well and it is hoped that they will be available by early summer.

ALOA update Dec 2006

There have been expressions of interest in the association from approximately half of the surviving Austerity locomotive owners in the United Kingdom and 2 from Holland. Hopefully more will join in due course as the association becomes better known.

Engineering details have been provided to various groups and 2 full sets of fire bars have been made from our patters and supplied. Our pattern maker is proceeding with the chimney and blast pipe patterns. We also have a supply of brake return springs and smoke box door blanks. A batch of new pistons are also about to be cast. Exploratory discussions are in progress with a well known boiler maker with regard to supply of new steel fireboxes. Please contact me, Brian Thomson ( auldda@hotmail.com ) if you have had one made recently or are interested in having a new or stock firebox manufactured. If more than one is ordered then the cost will be considerably reduced. Barry Gambles at South Coast Steam has patterns for windows and hinges and is happy to supply castings.

If anyone is interested in a meeting we could arrange to meet at Loughbourgh MIC classroom over the Great Central January Gala weekend. Contact Mark Ashmole ( mashmole@hotmail.com ) A model constitution has been found that with a little work should meet the association needs and a draft will be circulated form comment when its ready.

Buy & sell Consideration is being given to providing a secure page on the web site for members to buy & sell parts and locos etc. Please let me know if you be interested in this facility. Another option could be to provide members with an e-mail contact list (with agreement from all concerned). Contact Mark Ashmole ( mashmole@hotmail.com )

16-5-06 The first run of new firebars being cast is in progress this week and our pattern maker has taken delivery of a large lathe to enable making of the new chimney and blastpipe castings. Due to work commitments I've been unable to progress the compiling of the pattern register.

8-4-06 A draft constitution is being drawn up for the association and a bank account is also being setup as well. More details will be e-mailed to members ASAP. It would seem that getting information to set up a patterns register will take much longer than previously thought but it is making very slow progress.

28-2-06 Finding a pattern for the chimney has so far drawn a blank so we are having a pattern made and at the same time a pattern will be made for the blast or steam pipe. Patterns have been located in our own stores for fire bars and these will be being cast in the next week or so. Preparing the pattern register is going to take some time yet but I hope to have this on the site soon.

11-2-06 We will be having standard chimneys cast together with blast pipes. We are also considering having a large batch of firebars cast. Now available : new steam brake return springs. Please contact me if you are interested in any of these items. I've changed the format of the spare parts list to jpeg instead of tif which is much easier to download.

31-1-06 The inaugural meeting of ALOA was held in the MIC classroom at Loughborough station on Saturday 28th January 2006, thanks go to Bill Gwilt Great Central Railways running foreman for arranging the use of the building. The meeting was attended by the following people.
Martin Ashworth, Ian Carpenter, Andrew Goodman, Robert Meanley, Brian Thomson, Steve Turner, Russell Walker, and Dave Watkins. All the attendees were in agreement that this initiative was badly needed and thanks must go to Steve Turner who gave us the idea. A general discussion took place regarding the way forward and it was felt that for the moment due to distances involved the srps steam website would be the forum for information etc. all present would pass on news of the group to other interested parties who may not be aware of the associations existence. Discussions took place regarding drawings, patterns and spares with members agreeing to contact Mark with details of wants and availabilities. The meeting closed at 4.30 pm
