A

ctivity over the last few weeks has concentrated on having Morayshire, No.1 and 80105 ready for the running season.

LNER D49 Morayshire:- is off to the Llangollen gala next week and we are looking for all assistance next Monday and Tuesday to give the engine a really good clean and polish before it goes away on the Wednesday. The boiler has been satisfactorily inspected steam tested and routine maintenance carried out. A new pipe has been made for the exhaust steam injector, a cracked cab window replaced and a new steam chest pressure gauge and pipe installed. Wasted angle iron on the running boards has also been replaced.

BR Standard Tank 80105:- All the axle springs on the pony truck have been replaced and the driving axle spring that has a broken leaf has also been replaced. Work is ongoing to replace stay nuts in the fire box.

Austerity - No.7:- The journal scraping tool kindly borrowed from our friends, the RPSI at Whitehead has worked very well in restoring the journal bearing surface. Although the task requires a fair bit of elbow grease its a much more affordable option than having outside contractors do the work. The RH is complete with a little work still required on the LH journal. The new big end bearing castings are now due to be delivered from the foundry. Work is underway to restore the smoke box door which will include all new items except the original door hinges.

No 1:- The boiler has been inspected and the area of the fire box around the fusible plug holes were found to be wasted. New bosses have been machined and the plug holes opened out ready to have the new bosses welded in. This work is to be carried out by coded welders. Once this work is completed the boiler steam test will be carried out.
