ith Morayshire back from Wales 80105 has been taken out of traffic to have all the driving axle springs changed as well as routine maintenance which includes replacement of the stay nuts in the fire box and replacement of the blower pipe with in the smoke box. There are various other small jobs to be carried out before the locomotive is due to return to service in time for the Fathers day event and photo shoot.
Morayshire is in service and is running very well.
No.1 is in service and also performing well.
No. 7:- A new set of smoke box door components are in the process of being made and machining of the new big end brasses is also underway. New pins for the eccentric linkage have been made although fitting of the cotter taper pins is still in progress. The laborious task of lapping in the valve seats has now started. Assembly of the new graduated brake valve is in progress.
Fairmaid:- Progress has been made with the pipe work for the mechanical lubrication system installed. Good progress is being made on refurbishing and modifying the brake linkage to accommodate the new air braking system.
General:- Refurbishment of the shower room is well underway in the running shed and a major shunt has taken place to have the wagon with the austerity boilers in a position ready to bring into the Romney shed. The Sentinels and the Motherwell Bridge Diesel are ready to be moved out and the final shunt should take place this weekend.
Volunteer turnout over the last month or so has varied very much with very low numbers some days and occasionally very high on others. It is really good to welcome some new volunteers to the steam shed crew.
The recent 'Thomas' event went very well with very positive report from John Mayes
"I am pleased to say that the inspection by Zazz Projects on behalf of HIT Entertainment, owners of the Thomas brand, went extremely well and that no major operational, staffing, security or branding issues were raised by Katie Hart, the company's representative. Indeed, her overall view was that we ran a very good event, and she commented particularly on the high quality of the staff both in terms of their organisation and their customer-friendliness. Everyone involved in any way should therefore be both thanked and congratulated."
