I
t's been a while yet again! There has been some very good turnouts on Monday evenings and some really good progress has been made. A major tidy up and clear out of the Romney shed is underway.
Stop Press:- Leander will be arriving next Friday evening and will be stabled at Bo'ness over the weekend.
No.7 :- All the wheel sets are now ready for re-wheeling. It is hoped to fit the buffer beam next followed by the valve gear and connecting rods etc once we have it re-wheeled. Work on the boiler is progressing well with the wasted steel work in the smoke box all replaced and the loose door hinge secured. The smoke box chimney port has been returned to standard as it previously carried a Giesel ejector. This engine will be fitted with a Lempor type exhaust system similar to that fitted to 'Swiftsure' currently at the Strathspey Railway. New boiler tubes have been ordered and will be fitted once the nicks have been repaired on some of the smoke box tube plate holes. Cleaning of the back head pads including replacement of the studs is in progress as is wire mopping and painting the barrel. Removal of the regulator valve and its operating rod are tasks to be carried out next on the boiler.
BR Standard Tank 80105:- The damaged rocking grate has been removed so replacement parts can be fitted and the brick arch has been removed to gain access to a leaking flue tube. The main regulator stuffing box seal packing has been replaced. A further set of new main axle springs has been ordered as the last lot were made with defective steel.
LNER D49 Morayshire:- There was excessive play in the rear driver axle boxes which has been adjusted and the engine is in service and performing well. Tenders are being sought for a replacement set of super heater elements.
No.1 The engine is in service and running well however there are some weeping tubes and a leak at the foundation ring. It is proposed that the tubes be replaced and may be welded into the fire box
Austerity No. 19:- No progress at this time
Fairmaid:- The leading wheel set has now been fitted although there is still some fettling to be done..
Sentinel Denis:- Resolution of several small steam leaks continues..
CR 419:- Work is well under way on the dismantling of the locomotive in preparation for its major boiler work and axle box replacement.
No.6 The boiler of Prestongrange No.6 has been hydraulic tested
and it is hoped to steam test shortly.
