urnouts on Monday evenings continue to be high and good progress continues to be made. The general tidy up in the Romney shed continues with a transformation around all the machines. The battery fork truck is now operational although it is to be fitted with a new seat and lap belt ASAP. A space is to be cleared in the yard adjacent to to the end of the line through the shed for location of the temporary storage containers.
No.7 :- New mechanical seals have been made for the piston rods and valve spindles. Work on the boiler is progressing well with Billy restoring the backhead pads and replacing wasted studs etc. Wire mopping and painting the barrel continues. Removal of the regulator valve and its operating rod are tasks to be carried out next on the boiler. Repairs to the smoke box tube plate are progressing well with only a few nicks still to be welded up. The new boiler tubes are now on site and annealing and expanding the tubes will get underway shortly. Machining of the new big end bearings is underway and should be ready for white metaling in 2 weeks time
BR Standard Tank 80105:- The boiler firebox and tube plate has been cleaned ready to expand the weeping flu tube. We are still awaiting delivery of the replacement section of the grate to allow the rocking grate to be refitted.
LNER D49 Morayshire:- In service and performing well. Tenders are being sought for a replacement set of super heater elements.
No.1:- The engine is in service and running well however there are some weeping tubes and a leak at the foundation ring. It is proposed that the tubes be replaced and may be welded into the fire box
Austerity No. 19:- No progress at this time
Fairmaid:- No progress at this time.
Sentinel Denis:- Resolution of several small steam leaks continues..
CR 419:- Work is well under way on the dismantling of the locomotive with the tanks and cab removed in preparation for its major boiler work and axle box replacement. Removal of the boiler tubes is in progress prior to its boiler lift.
No.6 The boiler of Prestongrange No.6 has been hydraulic tested
and it is hoped to steam test shortly.
