No. 19

NCB No. 19

Built by Hunslet Engine Co Leeds in 1954 (Works No.3818).

Acquired from NCB Comrie Colliery Fife. Currently out of service and on display in the museum. Since its last major overhaul the locomotive had been the mainstay of the fleet, generally performing very well, the locomotive has been fitted with a Lempor type exhaust which dramatically improved its steaming ability. With 2 years on its boiler ticket the fire box tube plate was deemed to be in need of replacement. Mechanically the engine also needs a heavy overhaul including replacement of the axle boxes and motion brasses. The boiler will probably need some significant work too. The locomotive is currently painted in the NCB Blue and Yellow livery that it last carried when working for the NCB. At this moment in time we don’t have the funds to carry out the overhaul so unlikely to returned to traffic in the foreseeable.
